Two separate plane crashes in the four-states claim a total of five lives. The Vernon County Sheriff`s Office was notified just after six-thirty this morning about a low flying aircraft in the Four Rivers Conservation area. The search and rescue team,long with neighbors in the area located a Pper-180 plane near the Bates County line, North of Nevada and East of Rich Hill. Two people,both from Allen County,were aboard the plane at the time of the crash. They were both killed. The pilot has been identified as 33-year-old Mike Diebolt of Laharpe and the passenger as 53-year-old Anita Lumley of Humboldt. Reports indicate the two took off about 4:30 A.M. on a business trip to St. Louis. Both are employed by Diebolt lumber and supply in laharpe. An exact cause of the crash is still unknown. The FAA along with the National Transportation Board will continue to investigate.
