Fighting Obesity

JOPLIN, MO---One in three Americans is obese.
The reasons are easy to spot, according to Freeman registered dietitian Heather Boline.
"Not only are we eating more than we used to, our activity level has declined," Boline says.
Boline says the answer is to eat less and exercise more - goals that don't have to be overwhelming.
"Think of it as small baby steps, you can do something as simple as cut out 100 calories out of your daily intake and that will be 10 pounds a year," she says
Cutting back on high calories foods like sugary drinks or snacks can make the biggest impact.
"Some other things are to replace full fat like margarine, mayonnaise, and salad dressing with the light varieties," Boline says.
And you don't have to start out with a full blown workout routine.
"The recommended amount of exercise are 30 minutes, 5 days a week. But you can break that up into smaller portions 15 minutes every day or 10 minutes twice a day," she says.
