Cherokee County Taxation

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Area residents continue to speak out on what they say is unfair taxation. Cherokee County resident Jim Jones led a protest this morning at the Cherokee County Courthouse in Columbus. Jones says the Cherokee County appraiser has raised personal property taxes by 100-percent. Monday Jones posted signs around the lobby of the Courthouse to inform other Cherokee County residents the unfair taxation that he says is happening. And while Jones thinks Cherokee County residents are being unfairly taxed, county appraiser David Thornton says charges are correct. Thornton says he expects to hear more from Cherokee County residents on this issue, but doesn`t see any decreases in property taxes in the near future. Reported By: Priscilla Mace
