What would make four state students stay after hours picking up trash and cleaning classrooms? Tonight KSN`s Brad Douglas takes us to Carl Junction to show us why students are volunteering to stay after class.
To say these students have pride in their school, would be an understatement. That`s because these Carl Junction 5th graders are part of the START program, which stands for Surviving a Tornado and Rebuilding Together. As part of the program the students are helping beautify their school. There are 60 students involved in the project.
And part of their cleanup efforts is to plant all these flowers in the front of the school. The teachers say the students are proud to volunteer.
"Watching their enthusiasm and listening to their ideas. they dream big and i think that`s wonderful, thats the kind of leaders we want in the future,"said Vicki Farrill, START Coach. This Friday the START program will receive a 500 dollar check from the 7th street Wal-Mart to help restock the teachers supply closet for items they lost in the tornado.
