A four state Police Chief`s job is on the line, and his fate is still undecided. No action was taken at the Southwest City Council meeting Tuesday night and Police Chief Ron Beaudry remains suspended without pay.
Beaudry says he was suspended nearly two weeks ago because he tried to fire police officer Toi Cannada. He says because of a previous DWI conviction Cannada could not be covered by the city`s liablity insurance. Cannada would not comment regarding the allegations.
But in a letter to the council, dated May 14th, Meadowbrook Insurance Group says Cannada is clear to drive a company vehicle. Mayor Al Dixon says the Chief has been suspended for insubordination. He says
Beaudry refused to give one of the alderman information regarding police procedure. Dixon says they are looking into the matter and may make a decision regarding the fate of the chief at their next meeting.
