Joplin, MO- Indiana college students travel nine hours to help out a tornado damaged school. Physical education students from Ball State University donated dozens of balls, bats, bean bags, gym mats and much more. The group adopted St. Mary's Elementary School after learning they had lost all their P.E. equipment. Students teamed up with local stores for donations - and even made some of the items by hand.
Ball State Professor Dr. Amber Phillips said, "A disaster has occurred. And I'm sure that physical education is probably overlooked. It's overlooked all of the time. When something like this happens, I think it's probably the last to receive attention. So our students really wanted to give this school the attention that it needed."
St. Mary's first graders were on hand to thank the volunteers - giving them school t-shirts and a big round of applause.
