C.J. Storm Sirens

Updated: January 7, 2009
The threat of severe weather over the weekend had some people wondering why sirens were not sounded in one local community. On Saturday, the National Weather Service reported a trained spotter saw a funnel cloud just North of Carl Junction. Despite the warning, Carl Junction Fire Chief Bill Dunn chose not to sound the sirens, a decision some residents didn`t agree with. According to Dunn, if there`s a tornado spotted on the ground or in the air the sirens will be sounded. But Saturday`s possible tornado citing was just a difference of opinion. A representative with the Missouri State Emergency Management Association says its up to each community to decide when to activate storm sirens. Written By: Jim Jackson
