Holiday Fatalities

The holiday weekend claims the lives of 14 area residents including one local man. Woodrow Jensen of Joplin died July 2nd when he drove into the path of an ambulance in Newton County, on route FF in Joplin. The holiday counting period began at 6 p.m. July 2nd and ended at 11:59 Monday night. The Missouri Highway Patrol reported 232 injuries in 418 traffic accidents, and they made 121 DUI arrests during this July fourth weekend. This year`s death toll is down six from last year`s twenty reported fatalities. Written By: Kelli Baldwin
