breaking news
Two people are dead following an accidental drowning. The incident happened Monday afternoon at a strip pit just east of Oswego. Officials believe 18-year-old Tammy Tush got into trouble and her father, 54-year-old James Tush, jumped in to save her. The son in the family, 23-year-old James Tush, tried to save his father and sister but was unsuccessful. He was taken to a Joplin hospital and was treated and released with minor injuries. He`s also believed to be the one who called police. Both the Cherokee County Sheriff`s Department and the Oswego Police Department responded to the scene. Authorities say the strip pit belongs to the city of Oswego where residents often come to swim. Tammy Tush was pronounced dead at the scene. Her father was transported by helicopter to a Joplin hospital where he was pronounced dead. Both bodies are being taken to topeka for an autopsy.
