Medical Director for Freeman Urgent Care Paula Hartzell says most sore throats will go away in just a few days.  She says some home made remedies can be found in your home, or over the counter at the drug store.  "Gargling with salt water does remove some of the drainage that can be on the tonsils, or on the back of the throat."  Hartzell explains.  "Cough drops, or throat spray, that numbs up the throat will work.  And make sure to wash hands frequently."

But, after a few days, if those systems don't go away, it may be time to make that doctors appointment.  "If you have a very high fever, especially a fever over 102, that can be an indication of something more serious."  Hartzell warns.  "It could mean Strep throat,  it could also be a sign of Influenza, or other bacterial illnesses that can benefit from medical treatment."
