The other, over northbound lanes of route 71 between Route FF and I-44. Both signs are replacements for ones that were lost during the May 22nd tornado. Joplin Resident Engineer Greg Chapman says the signs that went up today are all part of a bigger picture.
"The I - 49 signing project, is essentially a project that is about 180 miles long," said Greg. "It basically entails detailing all of the signs on Route 71 in an effort to make that designation to I-49," he explained.
I-49 shields were also put in place today, but can't be uncovered until MODOT receives federal approval later this year. The anticipated completion date and ribbon cutting for this project is planned for December 12.
