JOPLIN, MO-- Your favorite beverage could cost more in the future.

The Missouri Secretary of State has approved a petition to ask voters about a potential beverage tax. If enough registered voters sign on the dotted line, the November ballot would ask that Missouri cities and counties be given the authority to ask voters for a beverage tax. Local voters are giving the idea mixed reviews.

Doug England said, "I don't think we need a beverage tax."
Steven Reed said, "I guess it would depend on what the tax is going for. You know if it's something that's going to benefit the community then I might be in favor of that."
Cheryl Shields said, "Well, since I am a Pepsi drinker - I drink more than one a day it would affect me. But if it's going to be for the betterment of the city, I'm going to go on along with what's best for us."

Supporters have less than two weeks to turn in petitions for the issue.
