Soccer Kicks Off

Students at McDonald County High School have been asking teachers for a chance to play soccer, now they have it.
Crowder College pitched in to help the high school apply for state funding in the form of a community learning grant which was approved.
The funding allowed the school to buy all of the necessary equipment and to pay for a coach.
The program lasts five weeks and fifty players are already participating.
Coach James Carter coordinates the practices and games.
He is also the assistant soccer coach for Crowder College, and is helping the players who are interested apply for athletic scholarships.
Administrators say it is a good way to get the students involved in school and gives them a reason to keep their grades up.
Players from the Crowder soccer team attend many of the practices to share their expertise.
Organizers say they have seen a dramatic improvement in many of the student's grades, which they attribute the change to having a coach who is taking an interest in their future.
