JOPLIN, MO - A regional chain restaurant, "Firehouse Subs" donates over $19,000 in life saving rescue equipment to the Joplin Fire Department. Representatives from the Florida based company presented the department with a "Res-Q-Jack " this afternoon. It's a highly specialized device that helps free people from building collapses, overturned cars, and well rescues.

The sub company was able to provide this equipment with funds raised from a campaign urging guests to round up the change on their bill to the nearest dollar. Joplin fire officials say the new addition is much needed.

"Following the May tornado of last year this was one of those needs that we realized very quickly," said Mitch Rambles, Joplin Fire Chief. "The potential for collapsed rescue and for the uses of this type of equipment was very real, not only within the city but within our region," Rambles explained.

The department will also purchase a new rescue truck to help transport the new device, and begin training officers on how to use it in the upcoming months.
