WASHINGTON, D.C - Since 1962 May 15th has been set aside as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. The annual ceremony is held in Washington D.C. at Judiciary Square. Its an oppourtunity to honor officers who have died in the line of duty by adding thier names to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall.

Two Joplin officers made the trip this year escort the families of their fallen comrades through the ceremony.

"I've lost several buddies that are on the wall already, said Corporal Dan Haskins, with the Joplin Police Department. "I was able to go last year and it's gut wrenching. Even as a citizen of this community I am really grateful for what they have given," he added.

This is the second year the JPD has sent officers to the National Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony.
