JOPLIN, MO - Rebecca Williams is the co-author of "Using Social Media in a Disaster." It's a comprehensive guide with tips on using the internet to effectively communicate after a severe weather event. She wrote the book based on her experience co-creating the Joplin Tornado Information page on facebook.

Williams received positive response from residents who used her page to get important information immediately following the tornado.

"After the leap day tornado hit Branson that is when we all realized that we needed to take our notes, compile what we had, and get something out," said Williams. We wanted to get a guide out because it was obvious that this kind of thing might be needed again," she explained.

The guide is available for free through this link: http://extension.missouri.edu/greene/documents/PlansReports/using%20social%20media%20in%20disasters.pdf
