JOPLIN, MO.--The demolition for St. John's Regional Medical Center is ahead of schedule.

Project managers say they are more than 4 months ahead of schedule, and should be done by September 30th.

So far crews have cleaned out the interior of the building.

They will start knocking down the original two towers in about 3 weeks, and it will take about a month for them to finish.

Right now they are in the process of demolishing the accessory buildings around the towers.

Construction managers say the faster they knock down the building the quicker new ones can go up...like Irving Elementary.

Senior Project Manager of Northstar Management Dan O'Connor says,

"This past weekend we started the daycare building which is a wood frame structure down below. It's one of the smallest buildings on the campus and that is the last building to come down to allow them to mobilize and start construction of the elementary school."

After they finish demolishing the building it will be another 3 weeks to clear the debris and recycle it.

Crews are working 6 days a week to get the job done.
