AFTON, OK--

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department is investigating a shooting that left a 3-year old Afton boy injured.

Deputies say the boy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, after his 9-year old brother accidentally shot him.

Investigators say the boys were home with their mother, who had fallen asleep on the couch.

The 9-year old boy was able to open a gun safe in the parent's bedroom, after finding the key.

Detectives say the 9-year old was holding the gun, when it accidentally fired, hitting the 3-year old.

The bullet then traveled through a wall and into the next room.

The county district attorney says the boy's injuries are not life threatening and he is in good condition.

No charges are expected to be filed.
