PITTSBURG, KS -- A local university tries to make it easier for students to find a job in this tough economy."I always hear students say 'Oh, I can't find a job'," says Jared Wetzel.

Wetzel is a student at Pittsburg State University.

"There's something out there for you," he says.

It's his job to help students find jobs; using the same online university program that landed him a job on campus.

"Allows students to upload resumes, view jobs; allows our department to also refer resumes to employers," says David Hogard with PSU's Career Services Department.

Career Services is behind the "Gorillas 4 Hire" program.

It's a job site exclusively for Pittsburg State students and graduates.

Students simply create a profile and start networking with potential employers.

"We literally have employers from all across the country accessing Pittsburg State's "Gorillas 4 Hire system," says Hogard.

About 6,000 companies are on the database looking for part time and full time employees.

9,000 students have profiles.

"We encourage freshman from day one to create your "Gorillas 4 Hire" profile, get a resume created, keep the resume up to date because that is going to be an important resource," says Hogard.

Something Wetzel kept in mind and is now thankful for.

"It's been amazing. If students don't take advantage of this service, I don't know what they're doing with their time. It's very beneficial," says Wetzel.

Gorillas for hire is free to all Pittsburg State Students. Companies can also set up an account at no cost.
