JOPLIN, MO---Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland says firearm users should treat every gun as if it were loaded, never point it at anybody unless you're prepared to shoot and keep your finger off the trigger unless you are going to fire the weapon. Gun professionals recommend using trigger locks and safes to keep your gun accident proof. Copeland believes if you have children in your home, they need to know the safety precautions as well.  The Newton County Sheriff's Office also has free gun locks available for residents.
