JOPLIN, MO. - Organizers say this year's festival will be somewhat laid-back like when it first started.

The reason they're keeping it simple is to keep the city budget on track.

Instead of hiring a national performer, the event will feature local bands like Jake Clark, Duke Mason, and Big Smitty.

The food will remain the same, with plenty of funnel cakes and ice cream.

Freedom Fest will begin at 5 p.m. at Landredth Park on Wednesday, July 4th. Fireworks will go off following the band lineup. Admission is free.
