Investigators in southeast Kansas are currently searching for Jimmy Sluder, 53, Pittsburg.

Sluder escaped from the Cherokee county jail around 3:30AM Sunday.

Cherokee county sheriff David Groves says Sluder was part of an inmate work detail responsible for doing janitorial work at the jail.

Groves says programs like this are common at jails around the area, and only low-risk inmates are considered for the work.

Sluder has been at the Cherokee county jail since april of this year for failing to appear in court on a theft case.

Once recaptured, he expects Sluder will face numerous charges related to his escape.

Groves says a man-hunt is being conducted, and anyone with ties to Sluder is being investigated.

Groves warns that anyone helping him will also be prosecuted to full extent of the law.

Sluder is described as a white male, around six feet tall weighing about 190 pounds.

He has a tattoo of Native American feathers on his right arm and also in the middle of his back.

If spotted, Groves says not to approach Sluder.

Anyone with information, is being asked to contact the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office or your local law enforcement agency.
