An Independence Man is Shot

INDEPENDENCE, KS.--- Independence Police Department 911 Center received a call of a man shot at 801 West Poplar in Independence . Upon arrival at the scene officers found the victim, Willie Lemont Hayes, suffering from a gunshot wound. Hayes was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita by MED Flight. The preliminary investigation indicates that Hayes was outside the residence when a subject drove down the street and fired at him several times. At least 1 bullet struck Hayes. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.
