MISSOURI--- Extreme heat causes a hay shortage in more than half of Missouri's pastures. To help farmers get through the summer, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon requested the USDA Farm Service agency provide extra grazing land for farmers. The agency would open "Conservation Reserve" pastures. There are about 1.4 million acres of land that will help farmers keep their cattle fed and healthy. Counties will need to meet specific requirements to be able to use the extra space. Including, having a 40% shortage of way on their land.
