JOPLIN, MO.-- Medical professionals say when the weather is nice people are more active outdoors. They say starting good habits while the weather is warm is a good way to develop a long lasting routine. Another good reason to start now is seasonal farmers markets give people more options to buy fresh local fruits and vegetables. Dietitians say it's not only about the availability of fresh foods, but also the taste.
"One thing that people might discover is that the vegetables and fruits may taste better in the summer, local fresh produce just seems to have more flavor than the winter produce typically does," states Heather Boline, Freeman Diabetes Educator.
Professionals also say juice based fruits like watermelon and colder meals like salad are healthy ways to cool down during the summer.
