(NEOSHO, MO) -- The Newton County Democrats hope to raise enough money to have a headquarters building for the 2012 election cycle.

The political group held their annual picnic fundraiser at Neosho High School tonight.

Local Democratic leaders say they expect as much traffic as the 2008 election and want to have enough space to meet that demand.

7th Congressional Candidate Jim Evans also spoke at the event.

Evans hopes his long-term experience as a teacher will help sway votes at the polls.

"It's very important to me to get around as much as i\I can so people can see me, get to visit with me and that's the reason I'm here," 7th Congressional Candidate Jim Evans says.

"I just hope that Democrats, Democrats of the area, will all get together and let people know we are here," Newton County Democratic Chair Jim High says.  "Stop being closet democrats and get out and get involved."

Attorney General Chris Koster also spoke at the event.
