Students at high schools across the nation joined together to show their support. They call the event Pledge Across America. At 1:00pm, a break from class to pledge their allegiance. President Bush hoped to have all 52 million school children across the nation participate. At Joplin High School, ROTC presented the colors via television as the rest of the students followed with the pledge. Education Secretary Rod Paige has written a letter to all 107,000 primary and secondary schools. Students at Joplin High show their support in many ways, including raising more than $2,000 to send to New York.
