JOPLIN --- Eight City Council members in attendance voted unanimously in favor to build at the Joplin Athletic Complex. The plans call for a baseball diamond, a flat playing surface, and specialized supportive swings with handrails.
City Council members also say this will not cost the city or taxpayers any money. The park is a generous donation from Joplin's Rotary Clubs that have raised nearly half a million dollars to complete this project.
Joplin Mayor Melodee Colbert-Kean says, "We have to make things accessible for everybody, and I think this being out there is going to be a homerun for our city. I actually would like to see some components of it incorporated into our existing parks also."
No word yet on when the construction is set to start. The project called "Miracle Field" is expected to take about three months to build.
