JOPLIN, MO.---  The announcement comes less than 4 months before the 2012 presidential election.

"I would guess Paul Rayn is probably very popular with voters in this area. And those who don't know him, once they learn about him, he will probably resonate very well with voters in this region," states Dr. David Locher, Department Head of Social Sciences, MSSU.

Political analysts predict this choice will sit well with voters in Southwest Missouri, which has a majority Republican demographic. However, some area Democrats believe Ryan may cost the Romney campaign some voters that are on the fence.

"Well I think he is trying to consolidate the conservative base, but in actuality, I think it's going to backfire on him because of his policies," states Jim Hight, Newton County, Democratic Central Committee.

Ryan's initial budget blueprint and stance on tax cuts have moved to the forefront of the political conversation as voters try to find out more about this 42 year old congressman form Wisconsin.

"It's kind of interesting that he is so young. Barrack Obama is kind of young for a president and now we have such young men as a the vice presidential candidate for the other party. I don't know if that is going to sway the opinion of twenty somethings," states Hight.

"While it's still to early to tell, Paul Ryan's age and likability factor will fare well with younger voters, some say his policies have drawn clear lines in the sand," states Dr. David Locher, Department Head of Social Sciences, MSSU.

Since the announcement, Ryan has joined Romney on his bus tour of political swing states including Virginia and North Carolina.
