JOPLIN, MO.--- FEMA has granted a request to allow residents to live in the mobile units until June 9th, 2013. The extension will provide housing for 166 families expected to be in permanent homes by that time. Requests for the extension came from both the City of Joplin and Senator Claire McCaskill. The mobile units were brought in for residents affected by the May 22nd tornado in Joplin. The housing contract was originally set to expire on November 9th, 2012.
