Carthage Schools Recognized for Excellence in Education

CARTHAGE, MO.--- "That's more or less like our Superbowl," states Scott Ragsdale.
Pleasant Valley Elementary Principal, Scott Ragsdale says it's a competition played not on the field, but in the classroom, and it's a competition the school is winning.
The teachers are never satisfied with just teaching to the middle. They are constantly changing and evolving their strategies so that we can push all of our kids forward," states Ragsdale.
The results are paying off. The school was recognized by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for Improvements students made in math and English language arts over the past 3 years.
"You have to be creative. You have to find innovative ways, new ways of doing things, because that's what our kids are going to be facing in their future," states Amy Collier, 2nd Grad Teacher at Pleasant Valley.
Teachers say the use of different tools in the classroom, like tablets and laptops, is making a big difference.
"We can not, can not, go through and allow these kids to go through their education without technology," states Collier.
Administrators say they work hard to make sure the lesson plans are adjusted to make sure all students learn.
"We have to identify the areas that students are a little lower in, or progressing at a slower rate, and we have to find new ways to teach them," states Ragsdale.
Teachers with the school say one of the biggest factors in their success is the involvement from parents. Principal Ragsdale says he's excited to see how much better his students, and district can be in the future.
