JOPLIN, MO--- Representatives with the US Department of Agriculture Rural Development announced an extension of a waiver for home loans until September 2013. It allows eligible applicants to apply for loans to buy a home or secure funds to construct a new one in Jasper and Newton counties.

Rural Development granted the waiver in December 2011. Last year, Missouri Senator Roy Blunt requested the USDA waive a rule so Joplin could benefit from Rural Development Housing money. Today he thanked them for their efforts.

Senator Blunt says, " Joplin's done it's part and seen the federal government step in and do what only the federal government can do when a disaster so big that a community or state can't deal with it on their own is a good thing."

The USDA says a review will be done before September next year to see if another waiver extension is warranted.
