JOPLIN, MO.--- Lynn Maguire has been busy over the last few months making 200 quilts. She's been making quilts for more than 20 years and she says it's rough for everyone when you first start out.
"You can put things on backwards, upside down, use the wrong patterns, wrong fabrics," states Lynne Maguire.
She along with 75 other women are with a group called the Town and Country Quilters. They have a community project where they make quilts for various organizations that need help. Today, they handed out the quilts. Amy Thompson is with the Children's Haven in Joplin and the quilts will go to many kids who are going through a crisis.
"Anytime a kid comes to the house they're usually just have the clothes on their back. They can take it home and be safe at night," states Amy Thompson, Children's Haven.
The group has been making quilts for more than a decade and several women will work on one quilt together. That can lead to a few arguments.
"Sometimes someone will put on this boarder, and no I don't like that border. Tear it off. When the person isn't looking and put on what they want," states Thompson.
"We have different ideas what we like. So we have some heated exchanges sometime. What the colors are going to be," states Donna Mosher, Town & County Quilter.
The group has grown over the years and they have even been able to recruit some members in their 20's.
"Quilting has always been associated with little old ladies that all have white hair," states Mosher.
Lynne sums it up best what the project is all about.
"Doesn't matter if you're filthy rich or dirt poor. Everybody deserves to warm their little baby up in," states Lynne.
