Pittsburg Fire Chief Announces Retirement

PITTSBURG,KS--- After 34 years of dedicated service to the City of Pittsburg Fire Department, Chief Scott Crain announced his retirement effective January 1st, 2013.

Crain has been with the fire department since 1979, promoted to Lieutenant in 94', Captain in 96', Battalion Chief in 2003, Interim Fire Chief in 2009 and Fire Chief in 2010. Crain served with six City Manager's and Fire Chiefs Elmer Fields, Bill Scott and Don Elmer.

Crain's list of accomplishments include the establishment of the Fire Marshall/Safety Coordinator position in the Fire Department, the achievement of an ISO evaluation of '3', and the creation of specialized response teams including Haz-Mat Technicians, Scubat Diving and Swift Water Rescue. Chief Crain was also instrumental in the construction of the new No.1 Fire Station.

Under Chief Crain's leadership, the Pittsburg Fire Department joined the Kansas Task Force 4 and Rescue Team and the Tri-State Recruitment Alliance.

City Manager Daron Hall says, "I appreciate Chief Crain's dedication and service to the citizens of Pittsburg and wish him the best in his retirement."
