MISSOURI--- The hotly contested tobacco tax hike was narrowly defeated with just one and a half percent of the vote. That's a difference of barely 42 thousand votes. Opponents say they're just glad the majority understood their concerns.
"I am very appreciative that we won the election. I'm quite sure it saved many jobs in my company. I suspect it saved hundreds of jobs across the state of Missouri," states Vic Colson, Black Market Smoke Shop.
Prop "B" wasn't the only question defeated. Voters also rejected amendment 3 which would have changed the way some judges are chosen. Final numbers also show two measures were approved at the polls. Passage of Proposition "A" means the St. Louis Police Force will now transfer to local control. Proposition "E" bars the governor and state workers from setting up a state based health insurance exchange.
