Northeast Oklahoma Man Injured in Residential Shooting

DELEWARE, CO., OK--- The incident happened at a residence in the Lakemont Shores Subdivision near Jay, OK, shortly after 5pm Thursday. Police say the resident called 9-1-1 and reported that a neighbor was trying to kick in the door to the house, after which the resident stated that he had shot the intruder.
Evidence at the scene was consistent with the residents description. Police found Carl Hughes, 50, laying in a yard nearby with a gunshot wound to the arm and two small punctures to the abdomen. Reports say Hughes appeared to be intoxicated and threatening to the investigators. He was flown to a Joplin hospital and underwent surgery late Thursday evening.
The incident is still under invesitgation at this time.
