JOPLIN, MO.--- Area veterans were in the audience as they were recognized with a presentation of colors. Also former Corporal of Marines Ethan Place gave a speech to the students. While in the Marines, Place was deployed in Iraq as a sniper. He was awarded the silver star for his actions and been the spotlight of several documentaries on the History Channel. He says it's an honor to talk to his fellow veterans about his story.

"Always an honor to be able to talk to veterans and it was great to be able to give back to some of the young kids. Give them a little bit of an insight what it's like to be in the military especially in JRTOC," states Sgt. Eathan Place, Veteran.

Place is also a history teacher at Joplin and an offensive coordinator for the Joplin football team.
