Joplin Man Sentenced For Assaulting His Girlfriend

JOPLIN, MO--- Curtis J. Downton, 54, was sentenced Monday. A jury found him guilty back in October 2012 of assaulting 39-year-old Cathering Welch. The assault took place in March of this year at an apartment Downton and Welch shared on Campbell Parkway in Joplin. In the course of the assault, which lasted three hours, Welch suffered injuries to her head, neck, arms, hand, and chest. Downton was sentenced to seven years in state prison for the attack.
