Jasper County Budget Hearing and New Bridge Announcement

CARTHAGE, MO.---- Jasper County commissioners held a public hearing this morning regarding 2012 budget amendments. Commissioners approved a request to allot more than $60,000 to cover adjustments for a previous pay raise. They also approved funding to cover utilities payments at the Carthage Courthouse and the Jasper County Jail. Along with a request of $560,000 for the Highway Department to pay for projects not originally in the budget. Also today, County Auditor Richard Webster addressed a budget revision from Sheriff Archie Dunn. He recommended using $23,600 from unused FEMA money to pay for fuel and maintenance fees for the Sheriff's Office. Webster says it's important that the county maintain the budget at a certain level.
"So that there is some reserve out there to help us meet these obligations when they occur especially in the area of utilities which was a biggy in the general revenue fund today," states Richard Webster, Jasper County Auditor.
Also at today's commission meeting, Commissioner Jim Honey announced plans to build a $400,000 bridge near the City of Jasper has been approved. It will be funded by federal money allocated from the Missouri Department of Transportation. The bridge is currently located off of Baseline Boulevard and County Road 48. MODOT crews determined the bridge was unsafe and should be replaced.
