JOPLIN, MO.--- Workers have been putting in 10 hour days to make sure the project is completed by the Spring. Project managers say they are slightly ahead of schedule, which they hope will make up for any delays caused by bad weather. December is right around the corner and typically one of the coldest months of the year. Crew leaders say they are working hard to stay ahead while the weather is still mild.
"A pool is made out of concrete and you can't pour concrete when it's below freezing. As long as it's not very much below freezing but that's why we need the weather to cooperate with us," states Steve Giett, Project Superintendent.
The new aquatics center is expected to open by May 24th of next year.
