Dumping Near Lake Causes Concern

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The dumping of waste near one Four State lake has residents concerned about the safety of their environment. Stacey has the night off. Almost two months ago, the city of Grove Oklahoma began dumping waste sludge at the Sulphur Bend area near Grand Lake in Ottawa County. Residents are now concerned about possible contamination of their water because most homes in the area rely on ground wells. Wes and Sherry Smith live about 1/4 mile from the dump site. Despite a notice in a Delaware County newspaper, they say they knew nothing about the dump site. The city of Grove has agreed to postpone dumping at the Sulphur Bend site. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality is at the location conducting tests of the area, checking for possible negligence.
