FORT SCOTT, KS.---  "It was really exciting, I was shaking very bad," states Melissa Arne, Lottery Winner.

Melissa Arne couldn't believe her luck when she found she had 4 white balls and the Powerball right in Saturday's drawing.

"I found out Monday morning, I came in and had them scan my ticket," states Melissa.

Melissa wasted no time, heading to Topeka to claim her prize.

"She scanned it and said congratulations and told me I won $10,000," states Melissa.

The money couldn't have come at a better time for this Fort Scott woman

"2 months ago we had a house fire and it burned down,  we didn't have insurance, so this is our way of getting a new house," states Melissa.

"It was a blessing in disguise that's for sure," states Rachel Cagle, Friend of Melissa.

One of Melissa's best friends Rachel Cagle sold her the ticket and says this couldn't have happened to a nicer person.

"She deserves it, she needs it," states Rachel Cagle.

Melissa even tried her luck again last night, even though she knew lightning probably wouldn't strike twice.

"I didn't think there was a chance in the world," states Melissa.

Now she's convinced people really can strike it rich playing the lottery.

"I use to only place once every 6 months, but now every Powerball,"  states Melissa.

Melissa bought her winning ticket at 5 Corners Mini Mart in Fort Scott. She had to use some of her winnings to tear down her old house, but will put the rest of it towards her new one.
