JOPLIN, MO.--- Gloria Garner-Workman loves Christmas decorations. She's also a fan of recycling, even her old Christmas lights.

"We took those down, burned them, salvaged the copper wiring, and we're going to send that off to be recycled," states Gloria Garner- Workman, Recycles.

Lowe's also wants you to be sustainable. They're giving you a helping hand.

"What you do is, you bring in your old Christmas lights and we recycle them," states Josh Hayes, Lowe's Assistant Manager.

You drop your lights off here, at the store's entrance, and then Lowe's ships them to Kansas City.

"They'll take the copper out of them and later use it as insulation. There are many other forms they can use the recycling for when it's shipped to Kansas City. It beats throwing it in the dump and letting it rot away," states Hayes.

Workers say the turnout has been great.

"We fill up our trash can about 2 or 3 times a week, and we empty it off and send them away," states Hayes.

Christmas lights aren't the only thing you can recycle after the holiday season.

"My daughter called me a hoarder one day. I said, 'No you have to look at that again, it's all recycling," states Garner-Workman.

Joplin's Recycling coordinator says you can recycle wrapping paper, bubble wrap, boxes and even aluminum pie tins. Garner-Workman recycles it all.

"I think it's important for all of us to recycle for our environments sake," states Garner-Workman.

You can also recycle your Christmas trees from December 26th through January 31st. For more information on the drop off locations as well as the Joplin Recycling Centers hours, click here.
