JOPLIN, MO.--- Mckinley Elementary School students got to spend their lunch hour eating pizza, cookies, and candy today. The Kiwanis Club hosted the party and even invited Santa to hand out a pair of gloves and hats to each student. Kiwanis Club volunteer, Steve Doerr says he's been hosting Christmas parties for the past 10 years at schools that have the highest rates of free and reduced lunches.

"These are needier kids that are less fortunate. So that's why we live to come and serve them, and give them things they otherwise might not have the opportunity for," states Dr. Steve Doerr, Kiwanis Club Committee Member.

The Kiwanis Club also visits Emerson, Irving, and West Central schools. The project is funded in large part through the Kiwanis yearly apple sales.
