MCDONALD COUNTY, MO.--- The Mcdonald County Historic Society held an open house to show progress on renovations to their old courthouse. Senator Roy Blunt stopped by to tour the facility and highlight the importance of preserving the area's rich history.

The group has been working for nearly 2 years to bring in new paneling, new carpeting, and remove the false ceilings on the interior. The space will eventually house a museum, something organizers hope will attract residents as well as tourists traveling along the new I-49 interstate.

Raylene Lamb, Historic Society President says "We're just kind of a little county in the corner of Missouri, and there's so much history and heritage here, we've got a very right history dating back to 1845 that the public needs to be aware of."

The estimated cost of the project will likely surpass $100,000. It is entirely funded by private donations.
