JOPLIN, MO.--- Today, Tara Johnston received the keys to her brand new home on South Jackson street. The build was sponsored by Boyd Metals, whose $50,000 contribution helped cover the cost of construction materials. The family was displaced after the 2011 Joplin tornado and had been living in temporary housing for more than a year. Family members are all moved in, and say they are grateful for the opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who helped build this home.
"I'm ecstatic, I am so excited to be home. I honestly did not want to spend another holiday in the FEMA trailer," states Tara Johnston, Home Owner.
150 Rebuild Joplin volunteers worked on this house for more than 4,000 hours. It's estimated that their labor saved $43,000 off the overall cost of building the home.
