MCDONALD COUNTY, MO.--- When students with the Mcdonald County High School Band found out they would be going to the nation's capital, it was like music to their ears.
"I'll get to see new things that I haven't seen before," states Amoz Lopez, 11th grader, Mcdonald County High School, Band Member.
"We have a lot of fun together and we're like a great big family," states Carlie Hendrix, 11th grader, Mcdonald County High School, Band Member.
The band is one of the few from across the country chosen to be part of President Obama's inaugural ceremony, after a long audition process of mailing audio recordings, video tapes, and lots of paper work.
"I think at some point, every person needs to go to their nation's capital," states Laurie Kinder-Lang,
Mcdonald County High School, Band Teacher.

57 students and 10 chaperones will load on to a bus on January 16th, and organizers say it is not a cheap trip.
"We have been raising money for months and months. The Band Boosters have really gone above and beyond, and we've actually had 2 Saturdays off since August, and those Band Boosters have just been working like crazy," states Kinder-Land.
The opportunity has made many of the students take a sudden interest in politics.
"Actually paying attention this election because of this trip, it has made me realize how much more goes on," states Ben Hamilton.
School administrators say the band members have earned this unique opportunity through hard work and determination.
"They're incredibly resilient and they make the most beautiful music. That part I'm not biased about," states Kinder-Lang.
The band is still almost $8,000 short on funds for the trip. If you would like to make a donation, call the Mcdonald County High School at 417-845-33-22.
