PITTSBURG, KS.--- The Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce has been hired to handle economic development for the city. The city manager says this is a good fit for the community, because the roll of the chamber is similar to that of the economic development director.
The city has a yearly contract with the chamber, and the city manager says there are several layers of protection in it to protect tax payers.
"If it did get to the point that it wasn't working, or there was a problem, anybody could get out of it in 30 days, but I'm looking forward to a long relationship. This is a proven model in a lot of other cities," states Daron Hall, Pittsburg City Manager.
The economic development director position was left open early this year when Mark Turnbull retired.
