CARTHAGE, MO.--- The Carthage Salvation Army held their annual toy distribution. Parents could come and pick out a couple of toys for their children. This year, the shelter is helping 268 children. Organizers say they can't imagine a kid having nothing to play with on Christmas morning.

"It's disheartening to know that parents aren't able to provide toys, and it's just because the economy right now, but we have a very supportive community that comes together and makes this happen," states Lt. Julie Trapp, Carthage Salvation Army.

Trapp says the number of kids they are helping is actually down this year by about 30%. They say it's good news that more people are able to make ends meet.
