breaking news
By law, the state auditor must audit all counties that do not elect a county auditor. After just such a review in McDonald county, state officials rated several agencies as "poor" when it came to keeping track of cash and handling money. During the process, numerous issues were found in several offices, including the sheriff's office, the county clerk's office and the county attorney's office. The state has made several recommendations to the county of ways to improve. A follow-up team from the state auditor's office will return to McDonald county to see if those have been implemented, and will issue another public report. The state auditor's report is posted online, and can be viewed by clicking here.
